Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – After two consecutive shutouts of the Walsh offense, the Cavs found their way back on the scoreboard in a 2-0 defeat of Lake Erie at Milazzo Field. It's the second-straight shutout for the Cavaliers (7-2-3, 4-1-2) after last Sunday's 0-0 with Findlay. The Storm are now 5-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the GLIAC.
Maddy Novak found the back of the net first for the Cavaliers when she took a rebounded shot by Gemma Hicks and sent it by the Storm's keeper in the 40th minute. It was her third goal of the year and gave Walsh a 1-0 lead for the rest of the half.
Midway through the second, Kristen Conti took control of a ball misplayed by the Lake Erie keeper and defender at the top left side of the box and put it into an empty net for a 2-0 lead in the 64th minute. It was her eighth goal of the season which ties her with Jessie Gearhart for best on the team and third in the GLIAC.
Dani Shambaugh picked up her fifth win of the year to improve to 5-0-2 in goal. She has recorded three of the Cavs' five shutouts and split time in another. Shambaugh made five saves on 13 shots faced.
The Cavs will return to action on Sunday when they take on one of the tougher opponents in the conference in Saginaw Valley. The Cardinals are ranked No. 20 in the nation and are 8-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the GLIAC. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
