Northwood Downs Walsh 5-2 in GLIAC Tournament

(MIDLAND, Mich.) – Walsh fell in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament to a talented Northwood squad by a score of 5-2 at the Midland Community Tennis Center Friday. The Cavaliers (6-7) will continue playing in the back draw portion of the bracket where they will face off against Ohio Dominican tomorrow.

The Cavs are playing as the No. 7 seed while the Timberwolves are the No. 2 seed.

Northwood took the early lead with a sweep of doubles competition despite competitive matches at first and second doubles. The team of Alisha Angle and Daria Bondareva at the second spot came the closest, but dropped the contest 8-6.

Sofya Logunova went on to win her first singles match in impressive fashion as she defeated Anastasia Puchkina 6-1, 6-1 for the Cavs' only point in competition. Walsh received its second point at sixth singles as Anastasiya Dasik received a forfeit at sixth singles.

Asia Harris had an opportunity to pick up another point at fourth singles, but dropped the third set 6-2. Harris lost the first set in her match 6-1, but came back to win the second set 6-2 to force the third.

The Cavs will square off against the Panthers tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.
