Cavs Battle Oilers But Fall in Four

(FINDLAY, Ohio) Despite giving one of their finest efforts of the season, Walsh (2-21, 2-13) fell in four sets to the South Division leading University of Findlay Oilers (17-6, 12-3) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match by set scores of 21-25, 27-25, 15-25 and 15-25.

The Cavs lost a heartbreaker in the opening set 21-25. The set featured six ties, the last at 21-all. Walsh held its last lead at 20-18.

Walsh rallied to even the match with a thrilling 27-25 win in the second set. The Cavs trailed 25-24 when back-to-back Findlay attack errors gave Walsh a 26-25 lead. Walsh then captured the set, which featured 13 ties, on a kill from Kelsey Snider.

Set number three was all Findlay, as the Oilers coasted to a 25-15 win to take a 2-1 lead.

Walsh led only at 1-0 in the fourth set. The Oilers held a steady lead throughout the set, and used a 8-4 run while leading 10-4 to expand the lead and settle the issue 25-15.

Gina Kramer paced the Cavs with 13 kills and an outstanding .333 attack percentage. Snider and Liza Pflugradt each had seven kills. Pflugradt had four block assists, with Kelly Miller adding three. Haley Howell handed out 29 assists.

The Cavs play at Hilldale College at 5pm tomorrow.
