Grand Valley Shuts Down Cavs

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) – Walsh fell to No. 10 Grand Valley State by a score 3-0 in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers (15-2-1, 10-1-1) shut down the Cavaliers (8-5-4, 5-4-3) defensively while controlling the tempo of the entire game on offense as they outshot Walsh 34-3. With the win, Grand Valley claimed at least a share of the conference championship.

The Lakers first goal game in the 30th minute when Marti Corby scored her 10th of the season when she connected on a shot just inside the 18-yard box. Grand Valley made it 2-0 when Kaely Schlosser scored on a corner kick taken by Jenny Shaba at 41:52.

The score remained 2-0 until the second half when Shaba scored a goal of her own on a header with an assist from Juane Odendaal.

Dani Shambaugh and Michaella Stucky split time in goal with Shambaugh getting the start. Shambaugh made three saves in the first half, while Stucky came in for the second half and made seven.

The Cavs' season will continue as they qualified for the GLIAC playoffs as the No. 6 seed. Walsh will head to No. 3 seed Michigan Tech for a second time this season. The two schools met back on October 5, a game that the Huskies won 1-0 in double overtime. A quarterfinal matchup will be played on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
