Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) Walsh opened the season with an 85-62 win over Central State University in the GLIAC/G-MAC Challenge being played at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. The Cavs are back on the hardwood at 1:30pm tomorrow vs. Salem International.
Kelsey Funderburgh scored 13 first half points as the Cavs built a 48-32 halftime lead. Walsh scored eight of the first ten points and never trailed. The Cavs turned a 13-5 lead into a 23-6 lead with a 10-0 run. In a well-balanced first half, Brooklyn Wooten added eight points on 4-4 from the floor along with five rebounds and three assists. Brittni Clopton added six points and eight rebounds and Jalynn Graham had six points.
Walsh would outscore the Marauders 37-36 in the final 20 minutes.
Funderburgh finished with 22 points, as she drilled five three-pointers. Wooten just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. She was 7-9 from the floor.
Holly Grober and Allison Butler each shot 3-5 from the floor and tallied ten points each off the bench. Clopton added eight points and 11 rebounds and Graham eight points and six rebounds. Clopton, Graham and Rachael Trujillo each handed out four assists and Clopton added four steals.
Walsh outrebounded Central State 54-38.
