(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – An aggressive early attack helped put Walsh past visiting Daemen by a score of 2-0 in a non-conference Sunday matinee at Milazzo Field. The Cavs (2-1-1) scored in the 13th minute to go ahead of the Wildcats (2-3) and kept the sheet clean the rest of the way.

Kristen Conti score the aforementioned goal in picture-perfect fashion at 12:55. With the ball deep in Daemen territory and in the right corner, Madison Strausbaugh sent in the cross where Conti raced down the middle untouched and headed it in on the near post. It was her first goal of the season.

The score remained notched at 1-0 until Amy Gilmore provided an insurance goal in the 72nd minute. With numbers on the Cavs' side, Dana Ward found a wide-open Gilmore in the middle of the field by herself. Gilmore was left with a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and snuck the ball by her despite being tripped up. It was also her first goal of the season.

Aside from the score, the game was relatively even throughout the match. Shots were even at 15 each, however Walsh had more on target with seven to the Wildcats' four. The Cavs could have taken a 1-0 lead even before their first goal, but an Emily Durina attempt was just off the mark as it hit the right post and bounced away.

Dani Shambaugh picked up her first win and shutout of the season with four saves.

Walsh will now prepare for a trip to the Steel City to take on another former conference rival in Point Park. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
