Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh (4-1-1, 1-0) won for the third straight time, as they defeated rival Malone (1-4, 0-2) 5-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Len Milazzo Field today. The Cavs remain home when they host Ferris State University on Friday night at 7 p.m., and then host Northwood University next Sunday at 1 p.m. in a pair of GLIAC matches.
Jessie Gearhart scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a corner kick to jump start the offense at the 8:14 mark. Dana Ward then gave the Cavs a 2-0 lead at 29:49 when she scored from 25 yards out on a pass form Lea Jalbert. Walsh outshot Malone 9-5 in the first half and led 2-0 at the break.
Walsh added two goals in the first five plus minutes of the second half to put the game away at 4-0. Amy Gilmore scored her second goal of the season, as she took a pass from Emily Durina and drilled it home from 25 yards out at 47:09 to give Walsh a 3-0 lead. Kristen Conti then tallied on an assist from Gilmore five minutes later to give Walah a 4-0 lead. It was Conti's third goal of the campaign.
Malone's only goal came at 62:25 on a penalty kick. Walsh put the finishing touches on as Maddy Novak scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Lauren Frank with a little more than nine minutes to play.
Dani Shambaugh played 77 minutes between the pipes, with Michaella Stucky playing the final 13.
Walsh out shot Malone 17-9.
