Walsh/Ferris State Defensive Game Ends In 1-1 Draw

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's soccer team recorded its first result in a match with Ferris State as the two teams equaled each other in a 1-1 double overtime draw. The Cavaliers are now 4-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are now 1-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

The majority of the game had a defensive mindset as neither side scored until the second half. Ferris State struck first as Casey Shauman scored on a one-on-one opportunity in the 55th minute. It didn't take the Cavs long to respond as Kristen Conti scored on a one-on-one chance of her own for her fourth goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Madison Strausbaugh set the play up as she flicked the ball forward with her head to a breaking Conti.

Both teams had chances to go ahead, but the goalkeepers were strong the entire game. Dani Shambaugh made five saves on 12 shots faced. The Bulldogs' Maddie Haustein made five saves of her own before going out with an injury late in the first overtime period. Savanna Wojtanowski finished up the game and made two saves of her own.

Walsh outshot Ferris State 17-12 in the game.

The Cavs will return to action when they host Northwood on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
