(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh had a tough go at it against Wayne State as the Warriors remained undefeated with an 8-1 win over the Cavs to close out the opening weekend of the season. WSU is now 3-0 both overall and in the GLIAC while Walsh sits even at 1-1 in the same categories after yesterday's win over Hillsdale.
Wayne State took the early advantage with a 3-0 sweep in doubles action. Daria Bondareva and Alisha Angle provided the Cavaliers their best opportunity for a point in the first stanza of the match, but fell by a score of 9-8 with a 10-3 tiebreaker.
Angle did provide Walsh its only point later in the closest competition of the match. After losing the first set 7-5, Angle went on to win the second set by a score of 6-3. With the match already decided, a tiebreaker was played with the first player to win 10 points taking the match. Both players fought hard and were tied at 7-7 before Angle pulled away with the last three points to win 10-7.
The Cavaliers now take the long road north to the Upper Peninsula to take on Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State. Walsh will first play the Huskies on Saturday at 10 a.m. and follow up with the Lakers a week from today at the same time.
