Walsh Pulls Away From Findlay For 63-48 Win

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh picked up an important GLIAC South Division win with a 63-48 defeat of visiting Findlay on Thursday evening. It was the fifth win in the last six games for the Cavaliers (14-5, 8-5). The Oilers (10-7, 6-7) were on a similar streak with wins in four of their last five prior to tonight.

The Cavs led for over three quarters of the game, but the Oilers remained in reach for a majority of the contest. It wasn't until a Brooklyn Wooten (5-8, So., Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) jumper with 5:56 left in the game that Walsh took a double-digit lead over its opponent.

Findlay quickly answered with a basket by Kirstin Klausing to bring the deficit back to single digits, but it was the last field goal the Oilers made for the rest of the game. The final three Oilers' points were all made at the free throw line.

In the mean time, Walsh had scores inside by Wooten and Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) and a 3-pointer by Audrey Badovick (5-5, Sr., Norwalk, OH/St. Paul) put the game out of reach.

Badovick had one of the finer games of her career as she scored a game-high 17 points off the bench. She was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-7 behind the arc. One of those treys came just before the half on a Clopton assist that put Walsh up 31-25 heading into the break.

Clopton also put together a solid all-around game with 12 points and rebounds for her second double-double of the year. She also added five assists and two blocks. Wooten added 10 points as the third and final Cavalier in double figures.

Walsh now sets its sights on Wayne State who currently leads the South Division. The two teams meet on Saturday with tip-off set for 1 p.m. in Detroit.
