(LEXINGTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's tennis team clinched its third consecutive GLIAC Tournament appearance with as it cruised by Ashland by a score of 8-1 at the Lexington Racquet Club. The Cavaliers (4-7, 4-7) swept all three doubles matches against the Eagles (2-9, 2-9) en route to the victory.
Sofya Logunova and Daria Bondareva remained dominant on the season as they had little trouble in the No. 1 doubles spot with an 8-3 victory. Alice Bergamaschi and Snezhana Kiseleva won at No. 3 doubles with an 8-5 decision.
The closest match came at No. 2 doubles where Asia Harris and Arina Kravitz needed a tiebreaker to win 9-8 (8-6).
In singles competition, Bondareva was the most dominant performer with a pair of 6-0 shutouts at No. 2 singles. Logunova added a win at the top singles spot by scores of 6-1, 6-3. Harris had another thriller at No. 3 singles with another tiebreaker, but gave the Cavs another point with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win.
Bergamaschi also needed a tiebreaker in the first set as she went on to win 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. Walsh's final point came from Kravitz who was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 6 singles.
The Cavaliers now head to Midland, Mich., for the GLIAC Tournament which will run Friday through Sunday. Walsh is guaranteed matches on all three days.
