(MIDLAND, Mich.) – Walsh was looking to avenge a loss earlier in the season to top-seeded Grand Valley State but couldn't match the talented Lakers in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The Cavaliers (4-8) dropped all three doubles contests as the Lakers (11-1) won 5-0.
The closest match came at No. 1 doubles as Sofya Logunova and Daria Bondareva were narrowly edged by Aimee Moccia and Rachel Sumner 8-6. Asia Harris and Arina Kravitz fell at the No. 2 spot 8-2 while the team of Alice Bergamaschi and Snezhana Kiseleva fell 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Gabriela Laguna-Leon battled Sumner at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell by scores of 6-1, 7-5. The other GVSU point came at No. 3 singles where Moccia defeated Harris 6-0, 6-1.
Now in the back draw, Walsh will attempt to advance for a chance to play for the fifth place match against No. 5 Ferris State which was defeated by No. 4 Tiffin today.
The winner of the Cavaliers-Bulldogs match will go on to play the winner between Hillsdale and Saginaw Valley on Sunday for fifth place. The losers of those two matches will also play on Sunday.
