Box Score (TIFFIN, Ohio) – Walsh kept its GLIAC Tournament hopes alive with a much-needed win over Tiffin by a score of 4-1 at Paradiso Fields Sunday afternoon. Jessie Gearhart had a big game for the Cavaliers (6-7-3, 4-6-1) with two goals and one assist in the win against the Dragons (3-10-2, 1-9-1).
Despite the score, Tiffin held the advantage early on with a quick score by Alli McCabe with an open goal in the 12th minute. Walsh was able to score the equalizer as Emily Durina scored on a through ball from Sydney Santaguida to the 10 to beat the keeper.
The Cavaliers were just getting started as Gearhart provided the go-ahead goal on an assist from Kristen Conti in the 37th minute. She added her second goal less than a minute later on an assist from Santaguida to give Walsh a 3-1 lead as the teams headed into the break for halftime.
Shortly into the second half, Conti put the icing on the cake with an insurance goal on an assist from Gearhart.
Michaella Stucky capped off a solid weekend as she made six saves on 17 shots faced.
The Cavaliers remain eighth in the conference, one point ahead of Malone for the final playoff spot for the GLIAC Tournament. The playoffs will start early for both of those teams as they meet each other this Friday at 12:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals against No. 1 seed Grand Valley State.
