Box Score (DETROIT) – Walsh remained winless in the GLIAC as it was swept by hosting Wayne State by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-16. The Cavaliers are now 4-11 and 0-7 in the conference. The Warriors improve to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC.
In the opening set, Walsh battled close until it was down 12-13. At that point, Wayne State started to separate itself with an 8-3 run. The Cavs got back within four, but the Warriors closed out the set with the final three points.
The second game was much closer with Walsh taking an early 7-6 lead after an ace by Haley Howell. The momentum swing then changed as the Warriors scored the next three points. Wayne State led the rest of the way with its largest lead at 20-12, but the Cavs came back to get within three at 23-20 before the 25-21 final.
Wayne State wasted little time with a 7-1 start en route to the match victory.
The Walsh attack struggled as no one had more than six kills on the afternoon. That number belonged to Kelsey Snider, who was also among the team leaders in digs with seven. Kaitlin Bronikowski dug up 12 balls. Olivia Zanolli and Howell each had 10 assists.
The Cavs now take the long road north to the Upper Peninsula next weekend. Walsh will visit Michigan Tech first on Friday with a 5 p.m. start.
