Cavs Drop Close Contest To Cards 2-1

Box Score

(UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) – Walsh dropped a tough contest to hosting Saginaw Valley by a score of 2-1 in GLIAC action at Braddock Field Friday afternoon. It's the Cavaliers (5-4-2, 3-3) first loss in their last four contests while the Cardinals (4-7, 2-5) broke a five-game losing streak.

Saginaw Valley State struck first as Stefanie Klug took an assist from Ashley Henderson for her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute. It also ended up being the only goal of the first half.

Jessie Gearhart was able to get Walsh on the scoreboard with an equalizer on a penalty kick in the 64th minute for her eighth goal of the season. That mark puts her tied with Michigan Tech's Lexi Herrewig for second-most in the conference.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as SVSU's offense kept the pressure on and scored the go-ahead goal 11 minutes later as Alexis Hilliard scored her first of the season.

Walsh was outshot 18-5 overall in the game. The Cardinals also led in shots-on-goal 10-3. Michaella Stucky took the loss despite eight saves on day.

The Cavaliers will attempt to get back in the win column as they visit fellow northeast Ohio member Lake Erie College. Kickoff in Painesville is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
