Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio)- Led by a strong team effort in the second half, Walsh was able to come back against Ohio Dominican and win 72-68. The Cavaliers (16-8, 10-8) trailed the Panthers (7-16, 4-13) by 18 with 13:34 left in the game before the Maroon and Gold stormed back for the thrilling win.
Walsh suffered in the first half with a poor 33.3 percent clip as it went 9-of-27 from the field, while Ohio Dominican took advantage and shot 56.4 percent on 13-of-23 from the field. Ohio Dominican was able to boost its lead at the start of the second half, but the latter part of the period was a different story.
The Cavs were able to cut the lead down to single digits at the 11:04 mark after a 3-pointer by Allison Butler (5-5, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers). Walsh was able to slowly creep back into the game and brought the deficit down to two with 7:24 left after a Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) layup made the score 55-53.
Brooklyn Wooten (5-8, So., Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) sparked the rally late in the game as she scored the Cavs' final nine points of the game. The first of those was a 3-pointer that tied the game at 66-66 with 1:35 to play.
After a jumper by Lauren Bates put the Panthers back up, Wooten tied the game once again with a basket in the paint and was fouled. The follow-up free throw was missed, but Whitney Dabbelt (6-0, Sr., West Carrollton, OH/Archbishop Alter) came up with a huge offensive rebound with 51 seconds remaining. Wooten eventually was at the receiving end of a pass from Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) and hit another basket in the lane to give Walsh its first lead since 2-0 in the first half.
ODU wasn't able to answer the call as its attempt to tie was no good. Wooten came up with the rebound and forced the Panthers to foul with four seconds left. She promptly made the foul shots to set up the final score.
Wooten and Kelsey Funderburgh (5-7, Jr., North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) led the team with 16 points each. Clopton also had a strong performance with 15 points and seven rebounds. Audrey Badovick (5-5, Sr., Norwalk, OH/St. Paul) added 11 points.
The Cavaliers are set to continue their competitive play against the South Division when they travel to Tiffin on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
