Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (15-10, 11-10) clinched their second straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff berth with an 86-77 win over Wayne State University (5-19, 5-16). The Walsh win, coupled with Findlay's win over Malone, secured the third spot in the GLIAC South for the Cavaliers. Walsh will close the regular season at home, next Thursday, against Malone in the 51st Annual Mayors' Cup Game at 7:30 pm. The game will be broadcast live on WNPQ FM 95.9, and will be streamed live on TEAMLINE.
Trey Fletcher (6-6, So., Ironton, OH/HS) came off the bench to score 12 first half points as the Cavs took a 43-30 lead into the locker room.
Wayne State would get no closer than seven points in the second half, as Walsh's balanced attack pushed the lead back to double digits with 4:29 to play. The Cavs would extend the lead to 78-61 with 3:02 to play.
Walsh, led by Rian Burrell's (6-3, Jr., Zanesville, OH/HS) 18 points, placed five players in double figures. Burrell was 6-11 from the floor, 2-2 from three-point, and 4-4 from the line. He also had six rebounds and four assists.
Fletcher and Zac Carter (5-9, So., Ironton, OH/HS) each tallied 17 points. Fletcher was 5-8 from the field and 7-9 from the line. Carter was 10-12 from the line.
The Cavs received a career-high 11 points off the bench from Robert Puleikis (6-9, Jr., Bloomfield, MI/Detroit Country Day/Drake). He also had four rebounds. L.J. Campbell (6-8, Sr., Weirton, WV/Weir) added 10 points and five rebounds. Walsh's bench outscored Wayne State 46-6.
Jesse Hardin Jr. (6-2, Jr., Warren, OH/Harding) had seven rebounds and four steals.
Wayne State's Clark Bishop tallied a game-high 27 points.
