Cavs Tripped Up At Northwood Despite Two Conti Goals

Box Score

(MIDLAND, Mich.) – A two-goal performance by Kristen Conti (Sr., Hartville, Ohio/Lake) wasn't enough for Walsh to overcome Northwood as the Cavaliers fell 3-2 at Dean Field Friday afternoon. The Cavs are now 2-2-2 on the season while the Timberwolves got their first win of the season and are now 1-2-1. Both teams were playing in their first GLIAC contest.

Northwood struck first with a fast goal by Jessica Flores just 1:56 into the game. The Cavaliers were able to strike back and tie the game on a Conti goal with an assist from Sydney Santaguida (Fr., Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) in the 23rd minute.

The score remained the same until the 71st minute when Flores scored her second of the day on an assist from Savannah King. Less than four minutes later, Northwood pushed its lead to 3-1 on a score by Jessica Esser.

Conti brought Walsh back within one with a score at 81:28, but the Cavs ran out of time down the stretch. Conti's goals were her third and fourth of the season.

The game was pretty even on possession as the Cavs outshot Northwood 10-8 overall and 8-7 in shots-on-goal.

Walsh will stay in Michigan for the weekend as it will play Ferris State on Sunday at noon.
