Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh fell in three sets to its second ranked opponent in as many days as No. 21 Grand Valley won by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Cavaliers (4-8, 0-4) remain in search of their first conference win while the Lakers (8-4, 4-0) have yet to lose in the GLIAC.
The Cavaliers scored the first point in all three sets, but it didn't generate much momentum as Grand Valley caught fire quickly. Walsh's best set was the third as it battled Grand Valley point-for-point throughout. The Cavs led 12-8 before the Lakers scored six of the next seven points. Walsh eventually made the score 21-20, but never could regain the lead.
Walsh's offense struggled against a tall Laker front line of defense that came up with seven blocks and forced the Cavs into countless more continuations. Kaitlin Bronikowski (Jr., Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) and Olivia Zanolli (Fr., North Canton, Ohio/Jackson) each came up with 14 digs to paced the team on the defensive end. Janelle Yunker (Sr., Marysville, Ohio/HS) and Emily Arnold (Fr., Sylvania, Ohio/Southview) were solid defensively as each tallied four block assists.
The Cavs don't have much time off as they get set for arch rival Malone on Tuesday at home. The match is set for 7 p.m. and is the team's Jersey Roar game. All Walsh student-athletes are encouraged to wear game jerseys or warm-ups.
