Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's soccer team picked up a much needed win with a 2-0 decision over visiting Ohio Dominican at Milazzo Field Sunday afternoon. This time, the Cavaliers (3-5, 1-4) were the beneficiaries of a hasty start with a goal in the eighth minute and made it stand against the Panthers (0-5-2, 0-4-1).
Bailey Moody (Jr., Middleburg Heights, Ohio/) put the Cavs up 1-0 7:16 into the game when he received a pass in the box from the right side by Jordan Prescod (Fr., Mississauga, Ontario/St. Marcellinus) and put it in the back of the net. The score energized the Walsh offense as it outshot ODU 8-4 in the opening half.
Play was a bit more even in the second half, but the Cavs added an insurance goal late when Moody pushed the ball up to Brett Sparks (So., Brush Prairie, Wash./Hockinson) just past midfield. Noticing ODU's goalie being out of position, Sparks lobbed the ball up and over the keeper's head to slowly score in the 86th minute to ice the game.
Jon-Paul Della Pia (So., Ajax, Ontario/Archbishop Denis O'Connor) picked up the win with the clean sheet. He made eight saves to match a career-high on 11 shots faced.
Walsh heads back on the road for its next two games. First up on the slate is a trip to Findlay to take on the Oilers on Friday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
