(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh Cavaliers returned to the win column with a 66-61 defeat of visiting Lake Erie on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC while the Storm dropped to 5-11 and 2-8 in the conference.

After a competitive first quarter, the Cavs closed out the second quarter with a 17-9 run to take a 10-point lead into halftime. Allison Butler capped it off and provided a momentum boost with a 3-pointer with a second remaining before the break.

Walsh kept Lake Erie at bay for most of the second half, but the Storm made a late rally to come within one in the final minute. Sami Naarducci made a pair of free throws to set up that score of 62-61, but Butler followed with four consecutive foul shots to provide the final score.

Brittni Clopton led the offensive charge for Walsh throughout the game as she finished with 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds. She was one of four Cavaliers in double figures along with Butler, who finished with 13, and Holly Grober and Rachael Trujillo, who both added 10.

Trujillo was strong defensively with six rebounds and three steals. She also added three assists on the offensive end. Alex Hochstedler pulled down seven rebounds and was strong distributing the ball with six rebounds.

Lake Erie was paced by Kayla Gabor with 21 points and eight rebounds. Shelby Carpenter added 16 markers.

The Cavaliers will attempt to remain unbeaten at home when they host Ohio Dominican this Thursday. Tip-off with the Panthers  is set for 5:30 p.m.
