(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's tennis team started off well against visiting Tiffin, but were swept in singles play for a 7-2 defeat Saturday morning at the Hall of Fame Courts. The Cavaliers are now 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference while the Dragons improved to 6-1 and 4-1.
Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez took the first doubles match in a contested battled by a score of 8-6 over Caroline Nelhage and Aimee Kaye. Daria Bondareva and Snezhana Kiseleva gave Walsh a 2-1 lead with a win at third doubles by a score of 8-4 against Bianca Avrum and Rae Brozovich.
In singles play, Fernandez and Kiseleva each forced three-set matches but fell in the deciding set. Fernandez rebounded from a 6-1 loss in the first to win 6-1 in the second before a 6-0 defeat in the finale against Adel Musina.
With the match already decided, Kiseleva forced a third after she won the second 6-2 following a 6-3 loss in the first, but dropped the tiebreaker 10-5.
Walsh will be back in action again tomorrow morning as it hosts Findlay.
