(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's tennis team wrapped up the fall season with a decisive 7-2 victory over Ashland in GLIAC action at the Hall of Fame Courts Saturday morning. The Cavaliers go into the winter break with a record of 4-9 and wrap up their final season in the GLIAC at 2-9. The Eagles remain winless on the year at 0-11 overall and in the GLIAC.
The Cavs jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at the first and third spots. Both came by way of a shutout with Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez winning 8-0 at the top spot while Daria Bondareva and Snezhana Kiseleva equaled the feat at thirds.
Logunova had another unbeaten day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Meghann Fitzpatrick in first singles. Bondareva and Kiseleva also had perfect days with victories at third and sixth singles, respectively.
Victoria Ambrosio added a point with a win over Kaitlin Snider by a pair of 6-1 sets at fourth singles. Gabriela Laguna-Leon added the final point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Natalie Keron at fifth singles.
Walsh will return to the courts in February when it hosts regional foe Lewis.
