Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh fell to nationally ranked No. 1 and three-time defending national champion Grand Valley State 1-0 Friday evening at home. The Cavaliers are now 6-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC while the Lakers improved to 10-1-1 and remained unbeaten at 5-0 in conference play.
The lone goal of the night came for Grand Valley at the 12-minute mark from Marti Corby assisted by Jayma Martin. Despite that, goalie Dani Shambaugh had an impressive game for the rest of the 90 minutes with seven total saves.
The Lakers dominated the first half as they outshot the Cavaliers 16-1, but Walsh made things more even in the final 45. In the final 10, Walsh had an excellent opportunity to score on a corner kick as Madison Strausbaugh attempted a header.
The attempt was blocks, but the rebound came out to Emma Mallets on the left side. She took the shot, but it was just high and struck the center of the crossbar and went over the net. Another shot two minutes later by Alisha Himes went just wide and the Lakers were able to difuse the threat.
The Cavs return to action on Sunday against Ferris State at home. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
