Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh volleyball team fell to visiting Michigan Tech 3-1 in GLIAC action on Friday evening. Despite falling in the first two sets 25-14 and 25-18, the Cavaliers (5-10, 1-6) took the third 28-26 and was close to forcing a fifth, but the Huskies (7-9, 4-4) took the fourth 25-20.
The third set was back-and-forth for the duration with neither team taking a lead of more than four points. That belonged to Tech at 20-14, but the Cavaliers were able to rebound and tie the game at 22-22.
Facing match point at 24-23 and again at 26-25, the Cavs didn't give up and stayed alive after a Lauren Loucks kill and a pair of Husky attack errors.
Momentum appeared to favor the Cavs in the fourth as they took a 10-5 lead early on in the set. However, Tech was able to score the next four points to get back in the game and force Walsh to call a timeout.
The Huskies eventually took a 19-15 lead before the Cavs rallied with the next five points to take a 20-19 lead, but Michigan Tech answered with the next six to take the match.
Loucks led the Maroon and Gold attack with 10 kills. Paola Ferrario was just shy of double-digits with nine. Olivia Zanolli tallied 30 assists.
Defensively five Cavaliers recorded double-digits. Amanda Adoranti led that department with a team-high 20. Ferrario added 15. Walsh also blocked 12 attacks with Emily Arnold going up for seven of them.
The Cavs will be back in action and close out the home stand with Northern Michigan tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
