(ASHLAND, Ohio) – Brianna Sanborn's goal with 2:01 to go pushed No. 7 Walsh to a 2-1 upset over No. 2 Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers (10-5-4) now move on to the semifinals where they will face No. 3 Michigan Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.

Determined not to let history repeat itself, Sanborn was able to take a ball misplayed by the Eagles (10-3-4) defense in the middle of field and found a corner just past the outstretched arms of a diving Courtney Barker in the 88th minute. Earlier this season, the Cavaliers fell to Ashland 3-2 after leading 2-0 after the first half.

Walsh also led after the first 45 minutes in this game as well as freshman sensation Olivia Peters found the back of the net on a free kick from 30 yards out to put the Cavaliers up 1-0 at 33:24. It was the Cavs' only shot of the first half.

That lead lasted until the 63rd minute when Deijah Swihart scored the equalizer on an assist from Kelsey McKernan. It was her 11th goal of the season.

Dani Shambaugh played a spectacular game in goal with nine saves on the day. Six of them came in the first half when Ashland outshot Walsh 7-1. Three more followed in the second.

Overall the Eagles controlled the ball for the majority of the game and outshot the Cavaliers 15-6. The hosts also held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The playoff win is Walsh's first since the 1998 season when the Maroon and Gold advanced to the AMC Tournament Championship with wins over St. Vincent and Geneva before a loss to Tiffin.
