Coach Young Records 300th Win Against Cedarville

Box Score

(CEDARVILLE, Ohio) – Head Coach Jeff Young became one of the fastest coaches in basketball history to reach 300 wins as Walsh defeated Cedarville 78-73 on the road Thursday evening. Coach Young reached the milestone in just his 382nd game and at the beginning of his 13th season.

The victory came against a familiar opponent that has given the Cavaliers many battles over the years as they have played the Yellow Jackets 85 times. This was the 46th win in the series for the Maroon and Gold.

True to form, this game was no different as the teams exchanged leads 15 times and were tied eight times. Neither team held a lead larger than seven points.

This matchup went down to the wire with the teams tied at 72-72 with 1:21 left in the game. Trey Fletcher provided the final go-ahead points as he made true on an and-one opportunity to make the score 75-72 19 seconds later. It was the last field goal in the game.

Cedarville went to the line its next trip down, but was only able to make the front end to cut the lead to two. Walsh was sent to the line the next two possessions where Zac Carter made 3-of-4 to set up the final score.

Fletcher recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. He was 9-of-15 from the floor. Jameel Moore provided a spark off the bench with 18 points on 7-of-10 from the field. He was 4-of-6 behind the arc. Carter added 17 in the win.

Cedarville had four players in double figures and was paced by J.C. Faubion with 17 points.

Overall Walsh was excellent from the field as it made 29-of-53. The Cavs also controlled the boards by a 34-29 advantage.

The Cavaliers will take the weekend off before returning to action against a more familiar rival in Malone. It's the second time Walsh will play the Pioneers in four games to start the season. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Osborn Hall on Tuesday.
