Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Looking to lower its magic number in hopes of securing another bid in the GLIAC tournament, Walsh came away with an impressive 88-69 victory over Tiffin on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (12-11, 10-9) were two games ahead of the Dragons (11-15, 7-12) coming into today's games.
With the win coupled with Wayne State's loss to Ashland, the Cavs just need one more win or a single loss by both Tiffin and Wayne State to secure the third and final playoff spot for the South Division.
Jesse Hardin Jr. (Sr., Warren, Ohio/Harding) and Trey Fletcher (Jr., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) had impressive nights as they combined to score 59 of the Cavaliers' total. Hardin Jr. had a 30-point game for the second game this week and Fletcher added 29.
Half of Hardin Jr.'s points came from behind the 3-point stripe with five treys. He was also 9-of-9 from the foul line. After Tiffin threatened midway through the second half and trailed the Cavs by five, Hardin Jr. sparked a 14-0 run with a trey. He put an exclamation point on it with a steal followed by a dunk to make the score 77-58 with 4:54 left in the game.
Fletcher was 10-of-15 from the field and added four 3-pointers of his own. Zac Carter (Jr., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) joined him in double figures with 15 points and was one assist shy of a double-double. Steven Carpenter (So., Lancaster, Ohio/Fairfield Christian Academy) made his third start of the year and recorded career highs with 10 points and six rebounds. He was 4-of-5 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers.
Walsh had one of its best days shooting as it made 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field. Behind the arc, the Cavs were 11-of-22.
The Cavaliers now look to secure a playoff spot in their final home game of the season against Findlay on Senior Night this Thursday. Tip-off with the Oilers is set for 7:30 p.m.
