Box Score (DETROIT) - Walsh's six-game winning streak was snapped as it fell to Wayne State by a score of 79-75 in GLIAC action at the Matthaei Center on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Cavaliers (18-8, 15-6) back into a tie with Ohio Dominican for second place in the South Division.
The Cavaliers had three players score in double figures led by Brittni Clopton (So., Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) who scored a season high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Brooklyn Wooten (Jr., Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) added 16 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Kelsey Funderburgh (Sr., North Lewisburg, Ohio/Triad) tallied 13 with four rebounds and four assists.
In a tight game throughout, the Warriors (11-16, 6-15) used an 11-2 run to take a 69-60 lead with 4:02 left in the game to create some separation. Walsh eventually climbed back to within three after a Funderburgh triple that made the score 75-72 with 33 seconds left, but Wayne State made four of its next five free throws to seal the win.
Shannon Wilson led a quartet of Warriors in double figures with 21 points on 7-of-11 from the field.
The Cavaliers now set their sights to rival Malone and the 20th annual Mayors' Cup. Tip-off with the Pioneers is set for 5:30 p.m. this Thursday at Malone's Osborne Hall.
