Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The Walsh volleyball team dropped its GLIAC opener in a five-set thriller to Lake Erie on Friday evening. The Cavaliers fall to 3-5 overall while the Storm improved to 6-3 after they took the match by scores of 25-23, 11-25, 22-25, 26-24, and 15-11.
After the Cavs dropped the first set, they came back with a vengeance in the second to dominate the storm. They jumped out to a 10-4 lead after a kill by Lauren Loucks and reached a double-digit lead after a kill by Gina Kramer. Another Loucks kill ended the set.
Walsh traveled midway through the third, but rallied with six-straight points to take a 13-10 lead after a Loucks spike. The Storm rebounded to take a 21-17 lead, but Walsh came back with eight of the next 10 points to take a 2-1 set lead.
The Storm evened the match up with a narrow 26-24 win in the fourth and took the fifth set 15-11.
Loucks recorded a season-best 24 kills on 46 attempts for an incredible 41.3 kill percentage. Kramer also hit the 20-kill mark. Paola Ferrario added 13. Olivia Zanolli made 51 assists on the evening. Defensively Amanda Adoranti tallied 23 digs. Ferrario and Kramer added 15 and 10 in that department, respectively.
Walsh will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as it travels to Columbus to take on Ohio Dominican at 5 p.m.
