Box Score (TIFFIN, Ohio) – Brianna Sanborn had a breakout game as she scored a hat trick in Walsh's 4-1 win against Tiffin Friday afternoon. Not only did she have a hat trick, but all three scores, and all four of Walsh's goals for that matter, came within the first 16:30 of action.
The first goal came just 10:35 into the contest as Sanborn dribbled around the defense and shot left past the goalie for a 1-0 lead. It took just 24 seconds for the Cavaliers (5-1-1, 1-0) to find the back of the net again as Corynne Swift scored thanks to an assist from Olivia Peters.
Sanborn's second came just over four minutes later after she scored off her own rebound. Then in the 17th minute, Sanborn found herself on a breakaway to give Walsh a 4-0 lead.
Walsh maintained that through halftime. The Dragons (1-6, 0-1) scored their only goal early in the second half when Svetlana Gudenkova scored off of a rebound by Taylor Lewis.
Mickey McClanahan started the game in goal and earned the win after she played the first half. She is now 4-1-1 on the season. She faced only four shots on the day, one of which was on goal that she saved.
Dani Shambaugh came in during the second half and made three saves on nine shots faced.
Overall, Walsh controlled the tempo from the start and outshot Tiffin 19-13.
The Cavs are now 3-0 on their stretch of six-straight road games with Ashland up next on the docket. Walsh will take on the Eagles this Sunday with kickoff scheduled for noon.
