Kenner's Golden Goal Sends Cavs Over Malone

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Dan Kenner sent the Maroon and Gold faithful into celebration with his golden goal in the 95th minute as Walsh defeated rival Malone in overtime. It was Kenner's second goal in as many games to start the season as the Cavaliers improved to 2-0 in front of nearly 500 fans at Milazzo Field Saturday night. The Pioneers evened out at 1-1 on the year.

It was the only goal of the game in a defensive battle that saw both teams combine for nine shots on goal. The score was set up by Brandon Denton who raced up the right side of the pitch before he found Kenner just outside the top of the box. The wide-open Kenner squared up and went left of Malone goalie Cody Hilty for the score.

Kenner also scored the equalizer on Thursday's game against Ohio Valley.

Walsh outshot the Pioneers 12-8 overall in the game, but it was the visitors that had the advantage early as they put the pressure on the Cavs and outshot the hosts 4-2 in the opening frame. Walsh came back in the second half and put eight shots, but only three were on target.

The Cavs now head into conference play against Findlay. Kickoff with the Oilers is set for 7 p.m. at Milazzo Field.
