Box Score

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – Alex Hochstedler's 32 points led Walsh as it broke a three-game skid with 79-68 regional win against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 2-3 on the season while The Rock dropped to 3-3.

Walsh jumped out to an early 8-0 lead over the first few minutes of play, but the hosts were able to get back into the game and eventually take the lead at 17-16 at the beginning of the second quarter. After both teams exchanged baskets, Mayci Sales went to work and sank three consecutive shots to tie the game and then give the Cavs a 25-20 lead with 5:29 to go in the first half.

The Cavaliers never trailed the rest of the way, but Slippery Rock did eventually tie the game at 40-40 midway through the third quarter. Walsh eventually regained momentum and closed the frame on a 13-4 run.

Hochstedler finished the game 10-of-19 overall and was a remarkable 10-of-12 from the foul line alone. Sales ended the day with 17 points and dominated inside with a game-high 10 rebounds. Dominique Foley joined both of them in double-figures with 13 points and was 4-of-7 on the day.

Both teams were even with 16 turnovers each, but Walsh took advantage of the extra opportunities more and outscored Slippery Rock 23-14 in points of miscues.

Walsh will return to action at home Monday as it takes on another PSAC team in Mercyhurst. Tip-off with the Lakers is scheduled for 5 p.m.
