Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Christmas break didn't hurt Walsh one bit as it thumped visiting Cedarville by a score of 76-50 at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. It was the first meeting between the Cavaliers (7-5, 4-2) and the Yellow Jackets (8-3, 3-2) since the 2011-2012 season.
The tone of the game was set in the second period as the Cavaliers played one of the best quarters of basketball all season and outscored the Jackets 25-4 during that session. The only player to score for Cedarville during that time was Regina Hochstetler who finished with a game-best 19 points.
On the opposite end, Walsh featured a balanced attack with Allison Butler leading the charge off the bench with eight points, her only markers in the game.
Alex Hochstedler led the attack with 15 points and was 6-of-9 on the night. Holly Grober added 12 points on 4-of-9 for the contest. The Cavs blistered the nets with a 52.8 success rate, another season best. Walsh outrebounded Cedarville 36-25 as well. As if that weren't enough, the Cavs dominated inside and outscored Cedarville 46-28 in the paint.
The Cavs now hit the road south for a pair of games before the new semester starts. First up will be a trip to Owensboro, Ky., to take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. They will follow with a game against Trevecca a week from today.
