Fletcher's Career-High 38 Lifts Cavs Over Lake Erie

Box Score

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Trey Fletcher exploded for a career-high 38 points to help Walsh defeat Lake Erie 73-65 in the Osborne Center Saturday afternoon. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Cavaliers (14-8, 7-8) and gave them another season sweep over the Storm (4-20, 3-13).

Fletcher went 15-of-24 overall from the field for the day and was 3-of-5 from behind the arc. The bulk of that came in the first half as he scored 23 points on 8-of-11 from the floor which included all three triples. He accounted for 11 of the Cavs' first 14 points.

His previous career-high came just over a month ago as he scored 34 at Ohio Valley back on January 10.

Despite his impressive game, Lake Erie remained within striking distance of the Maroon and Gold for the majority of the game. The Cavs eventually created some separation down the final stretch as a jumper by Zac Carter followed by two buckets by Fletcher put Walsh up 67-59 with 3:47 to go. Two minutes later, layups by Carter and Steven Carpenter gave the Cavs their largest lead at 73-62.

Carter finished the day with 21 points as he was 10-of-22 from the field with six rebounds and three assists. Jameel Moore totaled 11 points on 5-of-9 from the field with five boards and five assists. Chandler Vaudrin helped the Cavs win the rebounding battle 41-36 with 11 boards by himself.

The Storm had three players in double-figures and were paced by Gabe Kynard with 17 points.

Walsh will return to action this Thursday as it opens a short two-game home-stand against Hillsdale. The Cavaliers were 79-77 winners on the road against the Chargers in January. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
