Women's Tennis Shuts Out Ave Maria

(ORLANDO) – The Walsh women's tennis team bounced back from Sunday's loss with a 9-0 shutout of Ave Maria on Wednesday. The Cavaliers are now 6-12 on the year and 2-1 on spring break with one match left. The Gyrenes are winless at 0-8.

The Cavaliers were aided by a forfeit at third doubles and sixth singles, but made sure to make quick work for the rest of the contests. In total, Walsh didn't yield more than two games in any set. Four of the seven matches were complete shutouts, and two others were close to being shutouts.

Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez made quick work of Marianna Vargas and Camila Branstner 8-1 at first doubles, while Daria Bondareva and Snezhana Kiseleva defeated Mary Hardin and Kaylee Kutchta 8-0 at seconds.

In singles action, Vargas was no match for the superior Logunova as Logunova went perfect on the day with a pair of 6-0 set wins. Bondareva and Victoria Ambrosio also won at third and fourth singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

Fernandez defeated Branstner 6-2, 6-2 at second singles, and Gabriela Laguna-Leon won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles over Nellie Murphy.
