Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Nathan Kett provided the heroics as he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Slippery Rock in the season opener on Thursday evening. The Cavaliers (1-0) scored the goal in similar fashion as the women's game just prior to theirs with just a few minutes remaining on the clock.
Traffic in front of the net allowed the goal to happen as JP Alexis took a rebound off of a shot and was able to find Kett who put a roller into the back of the net from the left side. The score came with just 2:10 remaining in the game.
Walsh had other chances during the game, but barely missed on a couple of occasions. Before Kett's goal, no one came closer than Alexis who took a shot off Slippery Rock's goalie Jonathan Sharp and put the rebound off the post midway through the first half.
Tom Jackson came up big when called upon and kept Slippery Rock out of the net on all four shots on target. Walsh outshot Slippery Rock 15-7 overall, but trailed in the corner kicks 8-1.
Walsh will look to make it a perfect opening weekend as it hosts former G-MAC member Salem International (W.Va.) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
