Peters' Late Goal Give Cavs Shutout Win In Opener

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Olivia Peters' goal in the 85th minute was the only score in the game as Walsh defeated former conference foe Northwood 1-0 in the season opener on Thursday. The win also gave the Cavaliers (1-0) their ninth shutout in the last 19 games.

The goal came on an assist from Alexis Meffert at 84:31 from inside the box and allowed Peters to find the right side. It preserved a strong performance by the defense that allowed just three shots on the day and one on goal. Mickey McClanahan recorded the shutout, her second of her career.

Walsh had plenty of chances on the day with 15 shots overall with seven on target. The Cavs' offense also held the edge on corner kicks 6-2.

The Maroon and Gold will look to make it a perfect opening weekend at home as the Cavs host former G-MAC member Salem International on Sunday at 1 p.m.
