Box Score (NASHVILLE) – In its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference road trip, Walsh came away unscathed after a 3-1 defeat of Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (9-2, 3-0) won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14.
The Cavaliers needed to rally after going down early by a 10-3 count in the first set, but scored 10-of-12 points to take a 22-19 lead capped by three consecutive kills by Gina Kramer, Justine Coffman, and Olivia Zanolli.
The Trojans responded with the next three points to tie the set, but Walsh won three of the next four points and took the first game after a pair of hills by Lauren Loucks.
Walsh jumped out to a big lead in the second and led by as many as 10 at 20-10 before Trevecca started to rally late. The Cavs were able to hold the hosts at bay and went on to win 25-21.
After falling in set three, the Cavaliers put the match away with a dominant showing in the fourth. With the game tied 12-12, Walsh closed it out by winning 13 of the next 15 points. Of those 13 points, eight were kills including six of the first seven.
Loucks led the attack with 14 kills. Kramer added 13, Coffman tallied 12, and Paola Ferrario scored 11. Amanda Adoranti recorded 17 digs to pace the defense, and Zanolli assisted the attackers 46 times.
With the longest road trip of the season behind them, Walsh will now head to West Virginia for three matches next weekend. First up will be a trip down I-77 to take on Ohio Valley on Thursday. The showdown with the Fighting Scots is set to start at 7 p.m.
