Women's Soccer Wins First Ever NCAA Tournament Game

Box Score

(ALLENDALE, Michigan) The Women's soccer team had an exciting opening round of the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Soccer tournament. Beating out Saginaw Valley 1-0, the Cavaliers tabbed their first ever NCAA Tournament win.  The victory over the Cardinals helps the Maroon and Gold advance to the Midwest Regional Semifinals on Sunday.

Battling brutal temperatures and wet conditions, the Cavaliers fought their way to come out on top. A goal early in the first half by Alisha Himes, off an assist from Brianna Sanborn, gave the Cavaliers some momentum. Great defense from goalie Mickey McClanahan helped keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard and give her a shutout in the first round.

The win for the Cavaliers has them taking the field again Sunday at 1pm in the Regional Semifinals. They will play the winner of Game 2, either No. 1 Grand Valley State or No. 8 Rockhurst.
