(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Edinboro in both teams' first match of the spring semester. Both teams are also now 2-1 on the overall season.

The Maroon and Gold took two of three in doubles play before sweeping the Fighting Scots in singles action. Maria Kacalova and Katarina Razum had little trouble with the Edinboro duo of Roxana Yeh and Jelena Vucenovic with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour also won big with an 8-3 victory against Marija Tmusic and Payton Tomasko.

Mercedes Fernandez led the charge at first singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Laura Lopez. Clara Drasch won her second singles match with Tatiana Batalla in come-from-behind fashion 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. Katarina Razum won 6-0, 6-4 at thirds. Sofia Khairutdinova won fours with Vecenovic 6-2, 6-3.

Karimpour won fifth singles 6-3, 6-2 over Tmusic. Victoria Ambrosio recorded the shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Shelby Hutton.
