Walsh Powers By Oilers In G-MAC Opener

(FINDLAY, Ohio) – In its conference opener, Walsh took down Findlay by a score of 7-2 in a hard-fought victory at the Findlay YMCA on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 5-7 while the Oilers, who were also playing in their G-MAC first, dropped to 6-6.

The Cavaliers took an early 2-0 lead with wins at third and second doubles opening the day. Parvanee Karimpour and Sofia Khairutdinova made quick work of Hannah Essick and Kristi McDonald at the third spot by a score of 8-2. Maria Kacalova and Katharina Razum followed with an 8-5 win at seconds.

Singles play proved to be much closer across the board as three of the six matches needed a third set. Despite that, Kacalova, Razum, Khairutdinova, and Karimpour all remained perfect on the day. Razum finished off her opponent first with a pair of 6-3 sets at fourth singles to start that section of play. Khairutdinova followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the fifth spot.

Clara Drasch provided the match-sealing point at third singles in come-from-behind fashion. She dropped the first 6-3, but rebounded to take sets two and three by scores of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively.

Kacalova followed with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory at second singles, and Karimpour added the final point with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the sixth spot.

Walsh remains in conference play in its next match and will host Ursuline on Friday.
