Women's Tennis Scores 6-3 Win At Eckerd

(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) – The Walsh women's tennis team won its first match of spring break with a 6-3 victory over Eckerd on Tuesday afternoon at Bullard Courts. The Cavaliers improved to 4-5 with their second consecutive win, while the Tritons are now 1-5.

Head Coach Bryan Whittaker's squad scored a pair of wins in doubles action to take the early 2-1 lead. Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch took an 8-4 devision over Taylor Selby and Joyce Fields at first doubles. The other point came in thirds as Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour took down Laurence Bourgault and Isabella Wong 8-3.

Fernandez was perfect on the day as she easily took down Selby at the first singles pairing with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Drasch was also 2-0 on the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Maryann Aaron in thirds. Khairutdinova joined them in hard-fought match over Bourgault at fifth singles with both sets scored 7-5.

Katarina Raszum provided the other point with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Bailey Koronich at fourth singles.

Walsh returns to action tomorrow in its final match of spring break against St. Petersburg College.
