Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers football team traveled to Columbus for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup against the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon.
Playing in a rainstorm throughout the day, Walsh fell 7-0 in a defensive battle that was dictated by the weather.
Ohio Dominican took the opening kickoff and put the only points of the game on the board less than five minutes into the game. The Panthers scored on a three-yard touchdown pass, taking a 7-0 lead.
With four and a half minutes left in the second quarter, and the Panthers in the red zone on fourth down, Derrian Anderson wrapped up Ohio Dominican's quarterback and brought him down for a sack and turnover on downs. Walsh took over but could not fully capitalize.
On Ohio Dominican's first full drive of the fourth quarter, Phillip Keller picked off a pass as Walsh regained possession with seven minutes left in the game. The Walsh offense ate time off the clock with a 13-play, 66-yard drive. Walsh's drive was stopped at the five-yard line on fourth down, attempting to tie the game or win it in the final minute.
Walsh outgained Ohio Dominican with 251 total yards, the third-highest output of the season. Nick Gassman completed eight passes for 105 yards in the air and one interception. Koby Adu-Poku carried the ball 22 times for 73 yards as the rushing game totaled 146 yards on 45 carries.
Walsh's defense set a season-low in total offense allowed as well as passing yards as they allowed 215 total yards and 100 passing yards. Leondre Crosby led the defensive unit with nine tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Keller made eight tackles to go with his interception.
The Cavaliers will return home to North Canton and prepare for the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Walsh hosts the Panthers next Saturday (Nov. 2) at 7:30 PM for Senior Night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
