Women's Soccer Wins G-MAC Championship

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - After falling short last year in the G-MAC tournament final, the Walsh Cavaliers women's soccer team has won a conference championship. The Cavaliers defeated the Ohio Dominican Panthers 3-0 on Saturday (Nov. 16) to win the program's first conference tournament title at Roger Glass Stadium.

The Cavaliers take a program-best 16-4 record into the NCAA Tournament, which they punched their ticket to on Saturday.

Senior Brianna Sanborn opened the scoring in the 16th minute on a goal that was assisted by senior Olivia Peters after a give and go pass.

Maddie Malinowski pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute as Kayla Rance set Malinowski up for the goal in the box. Walsh led 2-0 at halftime, despite being outshot 7-6 in the half.

Sanborn returned the favor to Peters in the 58th minute as Sanborn gave a great pass to Peters, who nailed the shot home from 16 yards out. Walsh led 3-0 with over 30 minutes left and could taste the conference title.

As the clock ran out, the Cavaliers gathered on the field for a celebration that they so desperately wanted. G-MAC Commissioner Tom Daeger presented the team with the 2019 Conference Tournament trophy postgame.

The Cavaliers will wait and see what the NCAA Regional bracket looks like when it is released on Monday (Nov. 18) at 6:00 PM.
