Men's Soccer off to Best Start in NCAA Division II Era

Box Score

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University men's soccer team is off to their best start since 1993 with four consecutive wins. The Cavs 4-0 record marks their most successful start to a season since they became an NCAA Division II program.

Walsh defeated Slippery Rock 2-1 on Saturday (September 14) at the Milazzo Soccer Field. The game remained scoreless until the 57th minute when Dwight Van Dyke set up Nathan Kett for a goal off of a corner kick.

The Rock answered off a penalty kick by Anthony Werth in the 61st minute. But Van Dyke played the cross perfectly from Myles Cornwall for the game-winning goal in the final five minutes of the contest.

Van Dyke has now scored four goals in the final six minutes of regulation in four games so far this season.

Ethan Burawa recorded the win in goal for the Cavaliers with seven saves on the day.

The Cavs begin league play this Wednesday (September 18) when they take on Malone at 4:00 PM.
