Vatter Throws for Two TD's in Senior Day Defeat

CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers football team played host to the regionally ranked Tiffin Dragons on Saturday (Nov. 6) for Senior Day at Bob Commings Field. The Cavaliers were defeated 56-16 by the Dragons in the penultimate regular season contest.

BIG MOMENTS RECAP

  • Tiffin scored the first 14 points in the game before the Cavaliers broke into the scoring column. Walsh scored on a nine play, 45-yard scoring drive that was capped with a 38-yard field goal by Mason Brown.
    • Brown's field goal with 6:00 left in the first quarter was the season record for field goals within the Walsh football program. 
  • Tom Vatter connected with Jaden Gresham in the third quarter on a five-yard touchdown as Walsh went on a 11 play, 76-yard scoring drive with 7:22 left in the third quarter. 
  • Sal Sidebotham and Tche Leroux combined on a fourth down stop late in the third quarter, taking the running back down for a four-yard loss on fourth and one. 
  • Leroux blocked a 41-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. 
  • Vatter found his second touchdown partner of the day as he completed a five-yard pass to senior Isaiah Anfield with five minutes left.

CAVALIER TOTALS

  • Walsh totaled a game-high 20 first downs with 262 yards of total offense. The passing attack totaled 216 yards while the rushing game accounted for 46 yards.
  • Vatter was 27-of-44 passing with 216 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception.
  • Cory Thomas totaled 31 yards rushing on 11 carries. 
  • Delonte Hall had five catches for 59 yards. Keyshawn Johnson made four catches for 41 yards and Jaden Gresham went for four catches for a total of 41 yards.     
  • Sidebotham led the defense with 11 tackles and a game-high 3.5 tackles for loss. 
  • Walsh held the ball on offense for a season-high 36 minutes.

  • Walsh will head to Lake Erie next week for the Pride and Passion Game on Saturday (Nov. 13). Kickoff from Jack Britt Memorial Stadium will be 6:00 PM.
