CAVALIERS END SEASON WITH LOSS IN ATLANTIC REGION QUARTERFINAL

COLUMBUS, OH- The Walsh Women's Basketball team ended their 2020-2021 season Saturday (March 13th) with a loss to the number one-seeded University of Charleston. The Cavaliers lost by a score of 79-73.

Records: Walsh 17-7, Charleston 18-2

The Cavaliers and Golden Eagles went wire-to-wire Saturday evening in the second round of the NCAA tournament. There were a total of three lead changes throughought the contest, with Walsh's biggest lead being 14 at 8:40 left in the second quarter. A strong second-half led the Golden Eagles to outscore the Cavaliers 47-35. 

Two starters scored in double-digits for Walsh.  Leading the charge was senior forward Mayci Sales at 25 points.  Sales was 10-21 from the field, including seven free throws.  Carter contributed 18 points where she was 8-15 on the day.  Both Sales and Carter grabbed eight total rebouonds. 

Junior guard Lexie Scarton was two points shy of a double-double as she totaled eight points and 10 rebounds. 

For Charleston, #23 Brooklyn Pannell led all scores at 27, shooting 9-16 from the field.  Three other starters in Erykah Russell, Trinity Palacio, and Dakota Reeves would also tab double-digit points for the Golden Eagles. 

For the first time in the Division two era, the Cavaliers surpassed the first round of the national tournament and will look to advance further next season.
