Chargers Down Cavaliers on Senior Day

CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers football team led at halftime but ended up falling to the Hillsdale College Chargers 31-21 on Saturday (April 10) afternoon at Bob Commings Field. Walsh is 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the G-MAC.

How it happened: Hillsdale scored the first ten points of the game on a 23 yard field goal and a 35 yard rushing touchdown as they led 10-0 after the first ten minutes of the game. After Myles Williams recovered a Hillsdale fumble at the Hillsdale 37 yard line, Koby Adu-Poku broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run with 0:49 seconds left in the first quarter. Hillsdale held a 10-7 lead after the first quarter. Williams struck again with two interceptions in the second quarter before Jeremy Hodge connected with Tyre Gray for a seven-yard touchdown pass. Walsh took a 14-10 advantage with 3:11 remaining and held that lead at the intermission. Coming out of the half, Hillsdale scored on back-to-back possessions with touchdown runs of one and two yards, respectively. On the final play of the third quarter, Hillsdale scored their final points on a nine-yard pick six as the lead grew to 31-14. Just a minute into the fourth, Adu-Poku broke free for a 23 yard run, leading to a Hodge TD pass to Brandon O'Quinn from 50 yards out. The Cavaliers got two fourth down stops in the fourth quarter but could not capitalize, falling 31-21. 

FOR THE CAVALIERS

  • Walsh totaled 229 yards of total offense in the game with 174 passing yards and 55 yards on the ground. 
  • Hodge connected on 11 of 23 passes for 174 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. 
  • Adu-Poku totaled 77 yards rushing on 14 carries. 
  • Gray caught seven passes for 94 yards as the main target for Hodge under center. 
  • Williams led the Cavaliers defense with ten tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Walsh will travel to Kentucky Wesleyan next Saturday (April 17) at 1:00 PM Eastern for the season finale.
