Cavaliers Rally for Late Win, Continue Best Start in the D2 Era

OWENSBORO, Kentucky - The Walsh Cavaliers men's soccer team rallied late on Thursday (Sept. 23) night as they scored two goals in the final 11 minutes for a 3-2 win over the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. After trailing 2-1 entering the 80th minute, the Cavaliers struck gold twice to begin the roadtrip with a win. The Cavaliers have started the season 6-0-1 for the team's best start to a season since 2005 (7-0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Walsh started quickly as Harry Gardner assisted on a Canaan Johnson goal in the second minute. 
  • The Panthers scored the equalizer in the 18th minute by Adrian Stokke as the game was tied at one for the rest of the first half. 
  • KWC took the 2-1 lead in the 60th minute on a goal from Calum Newson.
  • Gardner assisted on his second goal of the night as Daniel Price tied the game at two in the 80th minute. 
  • Jac Humphreys provided the game-winner with 3:03 left in the game. 

FOR THE CAVALIERS:

  • Walsh finished with 15 shots with eight shots on goal in the contest. All eight shots on goal were from different people.
  • Ten different players took shots with Patrick O'Halloran taking five shots. Nathan Kolke had two shots in the game.
  • Price, Johnson and Humphreys all tallied goals with Gardner adding a pair of assists. 
  • Ethan Burawa faced 12 shots with six on target as he saved four shots. 

FOR THE PANTHERS:

  • Kentucky Wesleyan totaled 12 shots overall and had six on goal overall.  
  • The goal scorers, Stokke and Newson each had three shots with two on goal.
  • Zach Moore took two shots of his own.
  • Matthew Meyer made five saves in goal with three goals allowed.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cavs will travel to Nashville on Saturday (Sept. 25) for a G-MAC tilt with Trevecca Nazarene, starting at 1:00 PM Eastern.
